KIKI...YOU ASKED ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PUMP.  YOUR DR. SHOULD HAVE A NON WORKING ONE TO SHOW YOU.  THE 40CC. PUMP IS ABOUT AS BIG AROUND AS A SOFTBALL MAYBE AND THE 20CC IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF A HOCKEY PUCK.  I THINK ANY WAY, NOT TO SURE HOW BIG A PUCK IS BUT THE ONE MY KIDS USED IS ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AS THE SMALLER PUMP.

UNLESS YOU ARE ON A HIGH DOSE OR HAVE A LOT OF MEDS MIXED IN YOUR PUMP A SMALLER PUMP USUALLY IS LARGE ENOUGH.  I HAVE THE 40CC PUMP BECAUSE I WAS THINKING I'D HAVE 3 MEDS AND BE ON THE SAME HIGH DOSE  I WAS ON BEFORE.  SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ASSUME...LOL  NOW IT'LL BE JUNE BEFORE I NEED A REFILL...LOL

      HOPE I ANSWERED YOUR QUESTIONS.

CINDY PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY GIVE YOU A BINDER TO WEAR AFTER THE SURGERY.  IT HELPS WITH THE SWEKLLING AND HELPS THE HEALING AT LEAST IT DID FOR ME.  YOU ARE GETTING THE LARGER SIZE PUMP LIKE I HAVE THE 40ML ONE.  TALK TO YOUR DR. ABOUT GETTING THE PTM FOR YOUR PUMP.  IT ALLOWS YOU TO GIVE YOURSELF A BOLUS WHEN YOU NEED IT.  I'VE HAD MINE SINCE JUNE AND I LOVE IT!!!

LET ME KNOW HOW THE SURGERY GOES.  IS THIS THE FIRST TIME YOU HAVE HAD YOPUR PUMP REPLACED?  IT'S EASIER THAN HAVING IT PUT IN AT LEAST IT WAS FOR ME.

I am having a new pump put in on Sept. 15th.  The advantage to it is that it will only need filled every six months as opposed to now it is every two.  It is a simple task for the doctor to fill it.  He starts by cleaning the skin off and placing a sterile drap over the pump area.  Next he inserts a small needle into a port on the pump which he feels for with his fingers.  He will extract any left over medication and inject a new supply.  I don't have all the side effects of oral pain medications like nausea, drowsiness, etc.  I still take Neurontin and muscle relaxers but no pain medication by mouth on a routien basis.  Occasionally I do for breakthrough pain but not frequently.  Each person must examine their own needs but I know I can not live without my pump.  Before I got it I could not handle the pain and actually thought about sucide.  I knew that was not the answer or an option being a christian, but pain can really mess up your mind.  Good luck and if I can answer any question please feel free to write me.

I've taken so many meds in 14 years.   I have also tried NOT taking as many as I should in order to try to save my internal organs.  I'm considering a Pump and before I even mention such an idea to my doctor (who recommended a SCS) I'd like to know more.

Can you bend, twist, lift?  How is it filled, by you?  How often?  Does it hurt?  Where can I look for references, is there a site?  I don't even know the proper name!

I have a pain pump and I could not live without it.  I also have a stimulator that most of the time is useless.  With the pain pump like any medication you must get the rigt dose and cmbinations of medications.  I had just dilaudid in mine for years.  After a doctor change I now have dilaudid and clonidine.  This works much better for me.  I also take neurontin and muscle relaxers still but I couldnot go without my pump.  Believe me I have tried.  Good luck and let me know your decision and outcome.
